How do we see things?
Good architecture is all about connections. The connections between landscape and site, between the past and the present. Between the people who design the building and the people who use it. This is what lifts architecture above mere construction. Before all of this, of course, is the connection between architect and client. Because only through good relationships can we deliver good design.
Acanthus Architects df was formed in 1981 to make strong connections between people, projects and places. Our own place is at the heart of a map which takes us from Reykjavik to London. This gives us a perspective that is a little different from practices with a more limited geographical base
A way of life
We made our first commissioned sketch in 1981 in the Morayshire village of Cullen. Since then, the practice has grown in size and reputation. Today, our work embraces a broad spectrum of projects in conservation, regeneration and new build. We work on large-scale integrating architecture and individual domestic projects across Scotland and England and further afield in Iceland, Denmark and Norway.

We love living in the north east of Scotland. We love the environment, the sense of community and the opportunity to create architecture that responds to our beautiful setting. Yet, the city has a lure for us too. The pace, the dynamism and, of course, the opportunity to create architecture that responds to the unique challenges of urban living.
From our base in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, we work on projects that take us north, south, east and west. We look to expand our horizons. And those of our clients.
